Artist, Grayce Perry, is ever evolving as she explores various mediums and techniques. After winning several awards for sculpture she became fascinated with the response of oil and charcoal on mylar. The imagery in her abstract paintings is always playful, energetic and ambiguous, often encouraging the viewer to find their own insights into the work. Always intuitive Grayce moves in and out of abstraction, the goal always being to capture some familiar essence of a common human experience, emotion or place.
Continuing to play with materials Grayce is constantly pushing the edges to develop a unique style. Her recent contemporary collage paintings use inks on papers that are cut, torn, stamped, painted and even burned to ensure the desired effect. She employs Japanese kintsungi techniques to mend the imperfections with gold inks while giving a nod to the philosophy of wabi sabi in life and in art. Grayce’s work deserves to be examined closely. Although sometimes appearing simple the pieces are unexpectedly complex and symbolic.
